WALC is a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to teaching people to read, write, and speak the English language (for free).
WALC has served Whittier and
adjacent communities since 1962.
Our Mission: To provide literacy and ESL tutoring programs for adults and children who are in need of better skills and to train volunteers to perform these services.
To fulfill our mission, WALC trains community volunteers and pairs them with students.
We use a variety of methods and materials to meet the learning goals of our students.
We partner with other non-profits and with city agencies. WALC is funded by grants,
personal donations, the City of Whittier, fundraisers, membership dues and local
service organizations. Board meetings are held on the first Saturday of every month.
